A robbery suspect in Bellflower has died from injuries he suffered on Friday afternoon after a wild encounter with members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

As of late Friday night, Homicide detectives were continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding what is being classified as a “deputy-involved hit shooting” that occurred in the 9400 block of Alondra Boulevard.

According to Sergeant Chris Meadows, a Lakewood Sheriff’s Station deputy working in the city of Bellflower witnessed a robbery in progress and saw the suspect, a male adult, punching the victim in the face before he stole unknown property from the victim.

The deputy followed the suspect in his patrol unit as the suspect ran through an alley and the deputy collided with a cinder block wall at the end of the ally and confronted the suspect, who was standing on a raised platform to the left of the deputy’s patrol car.

Meadows said the deputy confronted the suspect and ultimately fired his weapon at the suspect from the driver’s seat of his patrol car. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene and has not been identified.
