A chemical spill at an industrial business in Los Alamitos on Friday afternoon has resulted in two people being sent to the hospital and several others being check for minor injuries and the evacuation of a number of businesses.
According to John Muir, spokesman for the Los Alamitos Fire Department, the incident took place at approximately 1:37 at Appliance SpaceSystems located at 4398 Corporate Center Drive.
Muir said that a 55 gallon drum containing nitric acid over pressurized and began off gassing into the air.
Muir also confirmed to Los Cerritos Community Newspaper that the situation was “stabilized” at approximately 3:15 p.m. and expected the spill to be cleaned up within the next few hours.
