CARMENITA-GEDDON: Road closures planned for I-5 at Carmenita Road next week

Residents in Norwalk, Cerritos and La Mirada can expect some road closures next week due to the construction of the I-5 Freeway project.

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close the northbound Santa Ana Freeway (Interstate 5) off-ramp and on-ramp at Carmenita Road on Wednesday and Thursday, April 4 and 5 due to the freeway expansion project.

Caltrans officials announced this week that overnight on Wednesday, April 4 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. the off ramp will be shut down for all vehicles. The same will apply for Thursday, April 5 from 7 p.m. to Friday, April 6 at 6 a.m.

Motorists traveling northbound I-5 to Carmenita Road from Orange County can use the off-ramps at Valley View Avenue or Rosecrans Avenue the exits preceding and following Carmenita Road.
Alternate northbound I-5 on-ramps in this area are located at Valley View Avenue/Firestone Boulevard/Gateway Drive in La Mirada; Freeway Dr./Alondra Avenue in Santa Fe Springs;  Rosecrans Avenue in Norwalk.

Detour signs will be will be posted.

The detour from Carmenita Road is to continue north on Carmenita then jut west onto Rosecrans Avenue.

The overnight work involves geotechnical soil sampling and testing as part of the $380 million I-5 Widening and Carmenita Road Interchange Project.

The project is constructing one carpool lane and one general purpose lane in each direction, reconstructing the Carmenita Road Bridge from a two-lane steel structure to a 10-lane concrete structure with new ramps, and realigning and upgrading frontage roads.
