The Friends of the 1st CEB of Cerritos will assemble 600 care packages for members of the 1st Combat Engineers Battalion (1st CEB), United States Marine Corps, Camp Pendleton who are serving in Afghanistan.
The gathering will be open to all local Cerritos area community members and will be held on Wednesday, May 16, from 6 to 10 p.m. at 12880 Moore Street in Cerritos.
The care packages will provide personal care items and goodies, including 700 dozen freshly baked cookies donated by Polly¹s Pies. The gift bags, sewn by local volunteers, will be filled and sent to the battalion members to show the community¹s appreciation for their efforts.
Despite the challenging economic times, community members; Friends of the Cerritos Library; L.A. County Sheriff¹s and Fire Department personnel serving Cerritos; and City staff generously donated socks, toiletries, books, snack foods, powdered drink mixes, and money for the Marines.
For information about volunteering or donating to this event, call President of the 1st CEB Adoption Committee President Dorothy Owen at (562) 926-1092.
