Santa Fe Springs – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will fully close a segment of Freeway Drive in both directions between Alondra Boulevard and Marquardt Avenue for approximately one month beginning Monday, May 14 at 6 a.m.  Freeway Drive is a frontage road abutting the northbound Santa Ana Freeway (Interstate 5) between Valley View Avenue and Carmenita Road.

The work involves the removal and relocation of underground utility pipelines.  The closure is in effect 24 hours a day/7 days a week until mid-June.  Local area businesses will remain open during the full street closure. Detours will be marked.

A second full closure of Freeway Drive within the same limits is scheduled to begin in late June and continue for approximately two weeks until mid-July.   A confirmed start date will be announced as the utility relocation work progresses.

Caltrans is working on two adjacent I-5 Widening and HOV Lane Projects to construct one carpool and one general purpose lane in each direction, realign and upgrade adjacent frontage roads, and reconstruct bridges from the Los Angeles/Orange County line to Interstate 605. The two projects currently in construction are the Carmenita Road Interchange Project ($380 million/contractor is Flatiron); and the second is the Alondra Boulevard Bridge Project ($110 million/contractor is C.C. Myers, Inc.). By 2013, six corridor widening projects will be in construction simultaneously.
