The California Independent System Operator (CAISO) has declared a Flex Alert for tomorrow, August 14 due to the extreme heat wave currently gripping the area.
In a statement released on Monday to members of the media, Southern California Edison officials said: “We’re asking everyone to reduce electricity use during the peak hours of noon to 6 p.m.”
On Monday morning, five different small residential areas in Norwalk and Hawaiian Gardens were without power due to the heat. It was expected to be well over 100 degrees on Monday throughout Southeast Los Angeles County area.
Edison officials said that residents and businesses should set their air conditioners or thermostat at 78° or above, use fans to help keep cool, turn off computers, equipment, and appliances that are not absolutely necessary and to shut off lights when you leave a room.
It is also suggested to avoid using evaporative coolers or humidifiers when A/C is running and to postpone using major appliances until after 6 p.m.
