Man gunned down in Monterey Park pizza restaurant

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide detectives are continuing to assist Monterey Park Police Department personnel investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a male Hispanic adult.

Investigators have learned that officers responded to the 1900 block of South Atlantic Avenue, Monterey Park, regarding a fight. As officers were responding to the location, the call was updated to a gunshot victim call. Network news casts in Los Angeles, including NBC Southern California reported that the scene was a local popular pizza shoppe.

Officers found the gunshot victim inside the location and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

When officers arrived, they saw many people leaving the scene. An officer attempted to stop a vehicle fleeing the scene at a high-rated speed; at which time, an officer involved shooting occurred.

No one inside the vehicle was injured from the officer involved shooting. No officers were injured. The investigation is ongoing.
