Sheriff’s Exchange Gun Fire With Suspects After Deputy Shot; Four Arrested

Los Angeles County Sheriff Deputies exchanged gunfire with several suspects who were allegedly involved in the shooting of an on duty officer on Friday night.

Four Arrests Made.

Search Continues for additional suspects.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding a deputy-involved shooting that occurred on Friday night, November 16, 2012, in the 1600 block of 81st Street, in the Florence community of unincorporated South Los Angeles.

Detectives have learned that at 9:33 PM gang enforcement deputies from Operation Safe Streets (OSS) Bureau working in the Century Sheriff’s Station area attempted to contact a group of five to ten males. The suspects all fled on foot and three or four of those suspects fired at deputies. Deputies returned fire.

One deputy was hit by gunfire one time in the abdomen area. He was transported to a local hospital where he underwent surgery and is currently in stable condition.

Four suspects have been arrested and are being booked for Attempted Murder of a Peace Officer at the Century Regional Detention Center of the Los Angeles County jail system.

As of Saturday morning (Nov. 17) , Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies are continuing to actively search for additional suspects and evidence in the five block area around the 1600 blok of 81st St (at Parmalee Ave). The affected area is from Zamora Ave. on the west to Compton Ave. to the east, and Nadeau St. to the north and Aldis Ave. to the south.

Once concluded, every aspect of the shooting is reviewed by the Sheriff’s Executive Force Review Committee.
