Whittier power outage leaves nearly 11,000 homes, businesses in the dark

WHITTIER –  Nearly 11,000 Southern California Edison customers in Whittier lost power and electricity on Monday night for around three hours due to a fire and explosion at the Murphy Substation.

The outage took place at around 6:54 p.m. and continued until around 9:30 p.m.

Some of the areas of Whittier that were left in the dark included an outdoor shopping center, the police station as well as a large part of Uptown.  

Parts of La Mirada and Santa Fe Springs were also involved in the outage.
