Ammar Harris taken into custody in LA for Las Vegas murders

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department was notified that suspect Ammar Harris was taken into custody in North Hollywood by the Los Angeles based Criminal Apprehension Team on Thursday afternoon.

Harris was arrested without incident has been transported to the LAPD Metro Detention Center to await extradition proceedings as of 6:30 p.m..

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department identified Harris as the person believed to be responsible for the deadly shooting and the resulting vehicle collision that resulted in two additional deaths that occurred on Las Vegas Boulevard on Thursday, February 21, 2013.

Harris goes by the name of Ammar Asim Faruq Harris, and variations of that name.  At approximately 4:20 a.m. on February 21, LVMPD Officers responded to the intersection of Flamingo Road and South Las Vegas Boulevard to investigate reports of a multi-vehicle collision. Arriving officers determined the deadly collision was caused by a vehicle which abruptly entered the intersection after being involved in an altercation during which shots  were fired.

The altercation is believed to have originated in the valet parking area of a nearby hotel. It is believed that Harris discharged several rounds from a firearm at the crime scene.
