A horrific car accident involving at least two cars near the 605 Freeway in Pico Rivera on Thursday night has resulted in the death of at least three people, all from the same family.

Several news outlets, including NBC LA are reporting that the three people who lost their lives include to minor children and one adult who is presumed to be one of their parents.

Pico Rivera Station deputies responded to a head-on traffic collision between a Honda Civic and a Nissan Sentra at the 3500 block of San Gabriel River Parkway, Pico Rivera.

A Sheriff’s statement sent to member of the media late Thursday night said “a preliminary investigation revealed the Honda passenger vehicle was travelling North on San Gabriel River Parkway and crossed over into the Southbound lanes of traffic. The Honda passenger vehicle struck the Nissan Sentra, which was traveling Southbound on San Gabriel River Parkway, and a head on collision occurred.”

The male adult driver of the Honda passenger vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The front female passenger was transported in critical condition to an area hospital. The three rear passengers, all minors, were ejected from the vehicle. Two of them were pronounced dead at the scene. The third was transported in critical condition to an area hospital.

The female driver of the Nissan Sentra and her female passenger were both transported to the hospital in serious condition.

The collision caused the closure of both the northbound and southbound lanes of San Gabriel River Parkway.

The cause of the collision is being investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Traffic Services Detail.
