Prosecutors charged today a Los Angeles Unified elementary school teacher with fatally stabbing his estranged wife at a West Hills home early Saturday, the District Attorney’s Office announced.
Michael Rodney Kane, 46 (dob 1-20-67), is scheduled to be arraigned in Department 100 at Los Angeles Superior Court, Van Nuys Branch, sometime after 1:30 p.m. He is charged in case LA074423 with one count of murder in the June 15 attack of his estranged wife, Michelle Kane.
He also is charged with one count of first degree burglary with a person present, one count of assault with a deadly weapon and one count of making criminal threats.
Kane allegedly went to a home in the 7100 block of Deveron Ridge Road around 8 a.m. Saturday and confronted his wife before chasing her outside and stabbing her multiple
times, authorities said. He also allegedly stabbed a man who tried protect the victim.
Kane fled the scene and was arrested Monday in San Bernardino County.
Prosecutors will ask that he be held without bail. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.
