The Cerritos Library Teen Studio is opening its doors to the public for the first time, with a dedication ceremony and open house on Saturday, September 21.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. at the Cerritos Civic Center and Cerritos Library, where it will feature comments from city council members, followed by self-guided tours of the Teen Studio. Residents are invited to come see all that this studio will offer the community.

The Teen Studio was created in the hopes of providing teens with a dedicated space to participate in activities that encourage educational, creative and personal development. It does this by providing access to state-of-the-art technology, study areas and the Cerritos Library’s young adult collection.

The young adult collection consists of around 7,000 items, including classic and popular fiction, study guides, graphic novels and periodicals.

The Teen Studio will also include 18 Apple computers, two 40-inch computer surface tables, two 55-inch interactive wall-mounted smart boards, one 80-inch display, two 32-inch e-posters, a multi-function printing device, and WI-FI; all available for teen use.

The studio was not only designed for the teens it was designed by them. The Teen Studio’s furnishings, equipment and floor plan were all influenced by suggestions made by Cerritos teens that participated in design development meetings.

After Cerritos Library gained “international renown” as the world’s first “experience library”. The new Teen Studio continues this tradition, touting a “sophisticated California garden studio” theme. This involves innovative art and architectural styles developed in California, as well as a color palette of green, plum, silver and blue for the furnishings, stools and chairs made with a maple finish and ottomans that evoke the shape of a leaf.
