Hawaiian Gardens Mayor Pro Tem Mike Gomez has recently announced that his city was selected a winner to receive the “Let’s Move Cities, Towns and Counties” Award during a celebratory session and National League of Cities Annual Conference in Seattle, Washington, on Nov. 14 at the Washington State Convention Center.

The “Let’s Move Cities, Towns and Counties” campaign was launched by the National League of Cities and is directly linked to the First Lady Michelle Obama’s program to address, reduce and eventually eradicate obesity among children in the U.S.

Hawaiian Gardens bested Kenmore, WA, and Selma, AL, under the 25,000 people category competition and is one among 18 winners nationwide who will be given honors by the NLC President Marie Lopez Rogers together with Executive Director of LMCTC & Senior Policy Advisor for Nutrition at the White House Sam Kass.

The 18 honorees have achieved the highest overall medals through the gradual rating process of all the participants in a national scale.

Gomez said, “In our city, the reduce children obesity movement was named ‘Activate Hawaiian Gardens’ and we practiced it with utmost passion and dedication.”
