Call it Southeast Los Angeles Counties version of “Carmageddon.”

Caltrans will begin installing falsework, a temporary wood bridge support used during the construction of the new Carmenita Road Bridge beginning next Monday, January 13, 2014.

Local residents in the area now refer to the work being done at the site as “Carmenita-Geddon” in reference to recent traffic work that has been done by Caltrans officials along the 405 Freeway in West Los Angeles in the past.

The work will require daytime closures on S. Firestone Boulevard in Santa Fe Springs and will also impact traffic to motorists who use Carmenita Road travelling from Cerritos and Norwalk.

The work will take place daytime, Monday, January 13 through Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Crews will place large metal beams with cranes for the construction on the new bridge, and the metal beams will span across close S. Firestone Frontage Road.   In addition all lanes will be closed at a portion of S. Firestone Blvd. just north of Carmenita Road Bridge along southbound I-5.

A detour will also take place where motorists will make a left on Shoemaker Ave, a left on Alondra Blvd. and left on Carmenita Road to access S. Firestone Blvd.

Visitors, residents and people who work in that immediate area will be experienced from back-up alarms, work crews and other related equipment and water trucks will be on-site and used to minimize dust during working hours.

On January 13 through Friday, January 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., full ramp closure will occur on the Southbound I-5 On-ramp at Alondra Boulevard.
