Cerritos Weekly Crime Summary  November 3 – 9, 2014

 

 

There were 20 Part I felony crimes reported in Cerritos this past week, an increase of six over the 14 reported the previous week. The following is a breakdown of crimes by category: six residential burglaries; three commercial/other burglaries; five grand thefts; two vehicle burglaries; and four auto thefts. Deputies made three felony arrests, six misdemeanor arrests, two warrant arrests, and issued 79 traffic citations. The Sheriff’s dispatch center also received a total of 266 calls for service, about the same as this year’s weekly average of 264 calls.

 

Residential Burglary:

 

19900 block Mapes Ave (11/3): Suspect entered unsecured side garage door, ransacked residence and stole luggage.

12600 block Park St (11/5): A witness saw three suspects jump over a neighbor’s fence and called the Sheriff’s. Responding deputies arrested the suspects and found evidence of an attempt to pry open a second-story window.

13900 block Acoro St (11/6): Suspect entered through open front room window, but nothing ransacked or stolen.

17800 block De Oro Cir (11/6): Suspect entered unlocked front window, ransacked the bedrooms and took jewelry.

16500 block Debra Ln (11/6): Suspect entered unlocked rear window, ransacked entire home and took a camera.

12400 block Sunny Creek Ln (10/7-10): One month after home was fumigated the resident reported two bracelets missing from a bedroom closet.

 

Commercial/Other Burglary:

 

16500 block Valley View Ave (10/15-11/2): Lock cut on door to storage locker and two cameras stolen.

16400 block Berwyn Rd (11/304): Front window on a business smashed, an office ransacked, and loss unknown.

16500 block Valley View Ave (11/2-7): Hole bored through wall of storage unit from adjoining unit, loss unknown.

 

Vehicle Burglary:

 

11300 block South St (11/6): Door pried and 3rd row seat stolen from ’08 Chevy Tahoe parked at commercial center.

18500 block Betty Way (10/30): Driver’s door lock punched and jacket stolen from ’07 Hummer parked in a driveway.

 

Grand Theft:

 

12500 block 183rd St (11/6): Eight locks cut and six cell phones stolen from boys’ locker room.

12700 block Center Court Dr (11/1): Dance company employees hired for party suspected of stealing gifts.

239 Los Cerritos Center (11/3): Tools stolen from the bed of a pickup truck.

11400 block South St (11/6): Two suspects grabbed display phones from store and ran from the location.

11500 block South St (11/9): Two female suspects observed by loss prevention putting numerous items into shopping carts and leaving store without paying. Both suspects detained and arrested by responding Sheriff’s deputies.

13800 block Bentley Pl (11/2): Utility trailer stolen from a secured parking lot.

200 Los Cerritos Center (11/3): ’97 Honda Civic stolen from mall parking lot.

12700 block Center Court Dr (11/5): GMC Yukon stolen from commercial lot and recovered 11/9 in Los Angeles.

12700 block Towne Center Dr (11/6): ’08 Chevy Trailblazer stolen from store parking lot.

Volunteers on Patrol Wanted

 

Looking for an interesting and useful way to serve your community? You may want to consider becoming a Sheriff’s Volunteer on Patrol. Patrolling the City in distinctly marked vehicles, VOPs assist with crime suppression, traffic control, vacation checks, special events and park patrols. They serve as additional “eyes and ears” for the Sheriff’s Department and train as first responders in the event of a major emergency or disaster. Neighborhood Watch Works – Block Captains Wanted

 

Neighborhood Watch Block Captains are also a valuable and important way to serve your community and neighborhood. Block Captains serve as a liaison between residents and our Sheriff’s Department by networking with neighbors, distributing information about crime incidents and trends, and providing feedback to our law enforcement personnel.
