Commerce Planning Commissioner and City Council Candidate Arrested for Domestic Battery in 2006

Staff Report

Hews Media Group-Community News has received documents that show that current Commerce Planning Commissioner and Commerce City Council candidate John Diaz was arrested and booked under California Penal Code Section 243 for domestic battery and abuse in March of 2006.

Diaz-booking

Diaz is endorsed by current Commerce Mayor Tina Baca Del Rio, and Commerce Councilmembers Lilia Leon and Ivan Altamirano.

As exclusively reported by HMG-CN last week, Steve Craig, owner of the Citadel Outlet Mall in Commerce, gave Diaz an eye-opening $20,000 for his council campaign.

Diaz is a close friend and ally of Oralia Rebollo, who is also running in Commerce for a City Council seat

Diaz and Rebollo have been seen together on several mailed campaign pieces touting each other’s qualifications and also on Facebook holding campaign signs

And, like Diaz, Rebollo secured a $20,000 donation from Steve Craig for her campaign.

Domestic battery is listed under 243 (e)(1) of the California Penal Code which states, “when a battery is committed against a spouse, a person with whom the defendant is cohabiting, a person who is the parent of the defendant’s child, former spouse, fiancé, or fiancée, or a person with whom the defendant currently has, or has previously had, a dating or engagement relationship, the battery is punishable by a fine not exceeding two thousand dollars ($2,000), or by imprisonment in a county jail for a period of not more than one year, or by both that fine and imprisonment.”

The case number appeared on three different public record websites as 8964388 and the booking was made at the East Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station.

It was unclear where the incident occurred but at the time Diaz, according to voting records, was registered at  7711 Rosemead Blvd., apartment 65 in Pico Rivera.

“Diaz mailed campaign piece cites family, community, and integrity,” said one Commerce resident who did not want to give his name, “this report you found sure casts a bad light on all those claims.”

Calls into Diaz went unreturned

  • Jason Stinnett Watch says:

Plain and simple: If JASON STINNETT is involved with a candidate, they that candidate is a fraud! Only lowlifes and bottom-feeders are attracted to other of a similiar character. That’s why Stinnett brings these people to the table.

Why is Stinnett still employed by the City of Commerce? All corruption starts and ends with him. His goal is to be the Robert Rizzo of Commerce one day and that’ll only happen if he can get scum like DIAZ AND ROBOLLO in office alsong side his already corrupt majority of Tina, Ivan and Lilia.

Why can’t someone step on that damn coachroach or at least call in Orkin!
