Jury Awards 7.3 Million in Marvin Gaye, Pharrell Williams, Robin Thicke Copyright Case

A jury awarded 7.3 million, ruling that Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke copied Marvin Gay’es song “Blurred Lines.”

Williams told the jury that he was trying to evoke the feel of Marvin Gaye’s music but did not copy the late singer’s work when he wrote the 2013 hit.

Williams and the others were being sued by Gaye’s children who claimed the song infringed their father’s copyright for the 1977 song “Got to Give It Up.
