Pico Rivera Chuck E. Cheese Shooters Sentenced
NORWALK (CNS) - Two brothers pleaded no contest today to assault with a
firearm in connection with a shootout outside a Chuck E. Cheese restaurant in
Pico Rivera, in which several bullets struck the restaurant but no one was
injured.
Superior Court Judge Peter Espinoza immediately sentenced Jimmy Ortiz,
31, and Jesse Ortiz, 34, of Pico Rivera, to two years in state prison following
their pleas, according to Deputy District Attorney Brock Lunsford.
The two were charged in connection with a shooting at about 8 p.m. Sept.
28 in a parking lot outside the pizza and game emporium in the 6000 block of
Rosemead Boulevard.
The gunfire followed a verbal exchange between the two men and an
unknown male who was described by witnesses as looking like a gang member, and
subsequent gunfire ensued -- some of which was captured on surveillance video,
according to the prosecutor.
Some witnesses said the unknown man drew a gun and fired first, while
others said one of the Ortiz brothers fired first, according to the prosecutor.
