Man Killed in Norwalk Identified as Joe Nava

Authorities today identified a 44-year-old man who was shot and killed at his home in Norwalk, allegedly by his sister’s boyfriend, whose name was also released.

The death of Joe Nava was reported just after 1 p. m. Saturday in the 11400 block of Lindale Street, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau.

Deputies responded to an assault-with-a-deadly weapon call and found the victim with a gunshot wound to his upper body, sheriff’s Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim lived at the residence with his sister and her boyfriend,” Navarro-Suarez said. The boyfriend, identified as 44-year-old Jose Ramos Nunez, was detained and later booked on suspicion of murder, according to the sheriff’s department, which reported that a rifle was recovered at the scene.

A possible motive for the killing has not been disclosed. Nunez was being held without bail at the Inmate Reception Center in downtown Los Angeles and was due in court in Bellflower on Tuesday, according to sheriff’s online inmate records.
