Retired NBC Universal executive Paula Williams Madison discusses her powerful memoir “Finding Samuel Lowe: From Harlem to China” at 6 p.m. on Monday, August 22 in the Cerritos Library Skyline Room. The free event is open to the public.
Raised in Harlem by their Chinese Jamaican mother, Madison and her brothers embark on a journey to trace their ancestral roots. In a true rags-to-riches tale, from welfare recipients to wealthy entrepreneurs, Madison’s book is a personal account of the challenging search for her maternal grandfather, which takes her and her siblings to Jamaica and China. “Kirkus” reviews described the book as “A well-structured memoir told in brief, punchy vignettes alternating between past and present.”
The 88-minute video of “Finding Samuel Lowe: From Harlem to China” will be screened before the author’s talk. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event.
