Staff Report

Jim West Honored by the Greater Los Angeles Area Council Boy Scouts of America

Whittier, Calif. (December 2, 2016) – PIH Health is pleased to announce that its president and CEO, Jim West, was honored with the 2016 Rio Hondo Good Scout Award, from the Greater Los Angeles Area Council Boy Scouts of America at a dinner that took place at the Radisson Hotel in Whittier on November 16, 2016.

The Good Scout Award recognizes individuals who have proven to be good stewards of society and contributors in their communities. This is the 32nd annual year of the Scouting Awards.

“We are pleased to have selected Mr. West as a 2016 Rio Hondo Good Scout Award honoree,” says Ruth B. Shannon, long time board member of the Greater Los Angeles Area Council Boy Scouts of America.  “Mr. West is well deserving of this award for all that he and PIH Health do to serve the health and wellness needs of the Whittier community and beyond.”

West has served the Whittier community through his leadership at PIH Health for more than 16 years. He joined PIH Health in 2000 as chief operating officer and became president and chief executive officer in 2004. He has led the organization through significant expansion, including two new patient care towers on the Whittier campus and the acquisition of a second hospital campus in Downey. Under West’s leadership, the enterprise also expanded to include the community’s largest independent multi-specialty medical group, PIH Health Physicians.

With the nation’s changing healthcare environment, West led PIH Health’s participation in innovative affiliations such as the first-of-its-kind partnership with a health plan and leading regional healthcare delivery systems, Anthem Blue Cross Vivity.

“I am humbled and honored to have received the 2016 Good Scout Award,” says West. “As a member of the leadership team at PIH Health, it is my responsibility to continue working toward delivering top-quality healthcare and ensuring our communities are healthy. I look forward to continuing my contributions and service to the city of Whittier, its residents and beyond.”

West and his wife, Susan, are actively involved in the local community. They have both served as board members of the Santa Fe Springs Chamber of Commerce. West has been involved in Murphy Ranch Little League, National Junior Basketball and the YMCA and has participated in many fundraising efforts for local organizations. Susan West has been active in Girl Scouts, Juniors, National Charity League and Soroptimists International Whittier.
