Canyon Fire Two-Raw Footage of Helicopters Preventing Homes From Burning in Serrano Heights

Staff Report

Oct. 9, 2017 video compilation of Canyon Fire Two shot by HMG-CN Publisher Brian Hews on his iPhone. The fire started 6 miles to the east and tragically burned several homes, with heavy Santa Ana winds carrying the fire to the hills of Santiago Oaks Regional Park within hours.

The compilation starts when the fire started burning the hills of the park, finally rushing by several homes while helicopter crews battled the blaze.

Helicopters were re-filling at the lake located at Santiago Canyon Road and Hewes St., making a round trip and water drop every 5  minutes.

Towards the end, five helicopters – two Siller Helicopters Sikorsky S-64E Skycranes and three Cal Fire Huey type helicopters were systematically dropping water on the huge blaze to keep it from burning homes.

The fire proceeded to burn towards Maybury Ranch just below Serrano Heights, where the aircrews continues to battle until it was dark.

Serrano Heights and Maybury Ranch residents were extremely relieved the helicopters came when they did and wanted to thank all fireman, aircrews and first responders for their bravery!
