Staff Report
Last week Judge Rafael Ongkeko ruled in favor of HMG-CN and Publisher Brian Hews in a bogus defamation case filed by Central Basin (CB) Director Leticia Vazquez.
The court found Hews did a thorough investigation and that Vasquez’ lawsuit was frivolous, ordering a hearing for her to pay as much as $60,000 in attorney’s fees.
Many people assisted Vasquez in the lawsuit, a list that shockingly includes La Mirada City Councilman Andrew Sarega.
In direct collusion with Vasquez, Sarega and his dad Ion “served,” (which is another word for delivered) Vasquez’ notice of lawsuit to Hews at his Cerritos offices.
Sarega and his dad came out from behind some bushes, walked up with a box of subpoenas handing them to Hews. People who serve subpoenas are usually paid for their services.
Days later, Sarega himself filed a frivolous lawsuit against the Lamplighter.
Sarega joins a long line of questionable elected officials, officials who took an oath of office to protect and defend the Constitution and the 1st Amendment, who have attacked a community newspaper for its investigative reporting.
Sarega also colluded with Randy Economy in the Hews lawsuit; Economy was arrested, charged with 3 drug violations and plead guilty to methamphetamine possession.
The other two counts, under the influence of a controlled substance, and possessing of a device used for unlawfully injecting or smoking a controlled substance, were dropped.
Economy (left) with his mom Rosemary. Economy was convicted for possession of methamphetamine, a serious crime.
The two now work together for a Congressional candidate running against Dana Rohrbacher.
Campaign finance report for Stelian Onfrie who is running for Congress showing Economy and Sarega getting paid by the campaign.
Last week HMG-CN reported that the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) confirmed that the campaign finance investigation involving Sarega, Tony Aiello and Residents for a Better La Mirada related to the La Mirada City Council election in March 2017 continues to be active and on going.
The investigation was a result of a series of articles exclusively published by Hews Media Group-Community News, and is why Sarega is suing the La Mirada Lamplighter.
In an email, FPPC spokesperson Jay Wierenga told HMG-CN, “I was forwarded an email from Enforcement regarding your inquiry, I can say the case is open.”
Aiello jumped into the controversy last week, sending a threatening retraction letter to HMG-CN denying involvement, even though he is under investigation by the FPPC.
Randy “The Douche Bag” has resurfaced. What a pathetic waste of life. The best part of him ran done his mom’s leg when he was born. Didn’t he also have a cocaine conviction?
Being that Randy Economy and his buddy Tony Aiello have taken to trying to smear Mr Hews (It didn’t stick with Apodaca) would be justified in posting details of the conviction.
People with skeletons in their closet, should keep their mouth shut.
Who’s to say what Economy is creating with intent, and what comes to mind after having the mind tarnished with white powder.
There is redemption and a future for Mr Economy, just not in the ethically uncompromising position as a journalist. Perhaps he clean toilets at a rehab somewhere and find his way back to the real world.
I see today the Jan 10 WDN reports Sarega is interested in running for the Congressional seat Ed Royce will retire from at the end of the year.
Realizing that residency in the district is not a requirement to represent it, all La Miradan’s should pray for Sarega to find divine intervention and be instructed to follow the light eastward to that beacon of opportunity, and get the hell out of La Mirada politics that he and Tony Aiello have almost turned into a cesspool with their lies and trickery.
Not that he is electable, as, once other candidates do their due diligence and see his involvement with a corrupt water district, a dirty campaign with backing by Romanian mafia scum, and his current position as a consultant to another Romanian of questionable background seeking elected office in Huntington Beach, he would be finished. And then there is his father Ion Sarega. Ugh.
Perhaps then he will realize it is best he return to kicking soccer balls around for a living, because ethically he is washed up and couldn’t get work cleaning cages at Animal Control now.
P.S. Andy, take your convicted felon dad with
I have noticed that Randy Economy is Sarega’s Communication Director. One carpet-bagger (Economy fled Cerritos to run for Norwalk council, and had his ass kicked), in the nest with another.
I hope Mr Hews can find the time to ask Mr. Economy about not being a resident and what makes him think he is the best candidate for OC in Congress. Hopefully we can get a sober response from the former? meth user.
Why do I call Sarega a carpet-bagging douche. La Mirada is not in the Royce’s district, and it’s a different county, very unlike L.A. , and he can’t possibly serve the citizens there as he can’t possibly know the district.
Obviously after 5 years in L.M. it’s clear that all he cares about is his political future, rather than the community, and will take any possible route to get there.
Further his polarizing behavior at L.M. City Hall, helped by his Romanian-mafia family and friends, should be a huge red flag. How can you get anything done, when you don’t play nice, and are despised by your peers.
Dad is a convicted felon, and he and the rest of his Eastern European fraudster cronies can be easily spotted in their jogging attire that reminds me of those dopes on the Sopranos.
