WHAT: The City of Pico Rivera will formally dedicate its newest recreational facility, a mini-patch soccer field dedicated to promoting soccer for the area’s youth. Last year, City staff met with MLS Soccer star and resident, Cristian Roldan with the intent of bringing a Futsal mini-pitch to the City. Cristian Roldan is an American professional soccer player who plays as a midfielder for Major League Soccer Club Seattle Sounders and the United States Soccer Team. The field will be named after the soccer standout. Youth teams will be playing on the new soccer field after the ceremony.
Futsal is FIFA’s (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) official indoor soccer game played on amini-pitch with five-on-five and a smaller ball. Futsal fosters ball control skills and quick decision making as it is played at a faster pace than full-pitch, eleven-player soccer.
A mini-pitch is an outdoor hard surface the size of a tennis court used for small-sided soccer games. Similar to a basketball court located in a public park, a mini-pitch provides kids and soccer enthusiasts a place to develop their technical skills and play pickup games.
