Rudy Bermudez attempts political comeback in 57th Assembly District campaign

By Brian Hews
Rudy Bermudez is ready to return to public office, and is running an aggressive campaign in the 57th State Assembly District.

Bermudez has been a fixture in Norwalk area elected offices dating back to 1991 when he was first elected to a seat on the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District Board of Education. He later won a seat on the Norwalk City Council from 1999 to 2002 and was elected to the California State Assembly in the former 56th Assembly District from 2002 to 2006 where he served two four-year terms in Sacramento.
Bermudez is from La Mirada and is a graduate of St. Paul High School in Santa Fe Springs.
In 2006 he ran for California State Senate against Ronald Calderon, and was defeated in one of the closest primary elections in California that year. Bermudez is also a former Parole Agent for the California Department of Corrections. After serving in the Assembly, he moved to the greater Sacramento area where he lived with his wife Nancy and two sons.
Bermudez returned to La Mirada in 2011 to run in the current 57th District, and he touts his “experience” as an elected official as being a “tremendous asset” to voters this year.
He said his campaign has been “on target” and claims endorsements from more than 55 local elected officials and from United States Congressional Members Linda T. Sanchez and Grace F. Napolitano.
“I believe we must invest in job training for California’s emerging green jobs economy. We also need government to become a partner with small business and create jobs rather than drive jobs out of state. And we need to do all this with balanced budgets and sound fiscal policies that will protect taxpayer dollars,” he said.
Bermudez also said that he wants to focus on job creation and to see how the Port of Los Angeles and Port of Long Beach can be better utilized to benefit area businesses. “We need experience, and I won’t have to learn on the job in Sacramento,” he said.

Oh my gosh.. he is running again? He was one of the WORST assembly representatives in HISTORY! He was my rep and I wrote him repeatedly for YEARS and never received even a form letter! So much for paying attention to constituents – guess it was because I don’t support his buddy Tony Vila La Raza!

  • Mike says:

I don’t know anything about hin, but he could not be worse than Charles Calderon, the most corrupt legislator in history. (Brother Ron quite bad too. I don’t know about the other brother, Tom.)

One cannot blame a son for the sins of his father, but I would be too worried about Ian Calderon carrying out the family tradition of corruption into the future. Enough is enough!

So is Bermudez bad too? Are there no good candidates running? It is about time that that area got a good honest legislator, rather than a crook.

My mother taught me (REworded slightlt) If you can’t find anything good to say about a man, don’t say anything atall.
