LCCN to be featured on NBC’s California Nonstop News LIVE on Monday at 7 p.m. with Anchor Colleen Williams

Los Cerritos Community Newspaper is being featured on NBC LA News this weekend, and again on Monday’s California Non Stop with anchor Colleen Williams.

LCCN Reporter Randy Economy will interviewed by Williams live beginning at 7 p.m. this coming Monday, June 25 to talk about the importance of community newspapers and the role LCCN has played in the current criminal probe at the Los Angeles County Hall of Administration.

Nonstop News LA is the marquis show on the all new digital channel called California Nonstop. It’s a one hour live newscast anchored by Colleen Williams that features lively interviews with L.A. newsmakers who deconstruct and further examine the best stories of the day. The interview segment on will also be posted to our NBC website, NBCLA.com.

Here is what NBC LA said about LCCN on Friday:

“A small South Los Angeles County community newspaper has posted another 134 emails between Los Angeles County Assessor John Noguez and various property tax agents who allegedly worked to get tax reductions on some real estate. Noguez is currently on a leave of absence, but he is still receiving his full $192,000 annual salary.

The Los Cerritos Community Newspaper, circulation 16,000, first broke the story of the investigation into the assessor’s office several months ago. It had been investigating the story for about two years.

Reporter Randy Economy said the emails are part of the criminal investigation into the alleged dealings of Noguez, his deputies and the tax agents. One from Noguez’s deputy Robert Meraz tells tax agent Ramin Salari that checks on two property tax reductions are “in the mail.” The checks were for lowered assessments and they went directly to the agent rather than the property owners, Economy said.

He said the newspaper has some 3,000 additional emails it is still reviewing. Los Angeles District Attorney Steve Cooley has called the investigation into the assessor’s office one of the most important criminal probes into corruption in 40 years. A former property appraiser, Scott Schenter, from the office is already under indictment for allegedly falsifying records and illegally reducing property values.”

  • Fed Up says:

How come nobody is talking about the Supervisors’ quick move of Santos Kreimann (unqualified and has many ties to special interests in Marina del Rey and the Grand Ave. Project) over the 13 candidates that ran for the position in 2010? How come they didn’t bring someone in from the outside that didn’t have any County ties? Noguez appoints Kreimann from undisclosed location? Hour and half urgent closed session meeting for the Board on June 19th? Nobody is really watching what is happening!!!!

  • Jon Walker says:
