A family from Norwalk is in deep mourning after three family members were killed in a violent car accident in the Riverside County community of Jurupa Valley late Saturday night.

An 8-year-old girl and two adults died and four people were injured in a head-on collision between two vehicles on Limonite Avenue.  It is being confirmed that that the accident took place shortly before 10 p.m. in the 10000 block of Limonite, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said.

Those killed in the crash were Elizabeth Mendez, age 8; Elizabeth Mendez, age 33; and Maria Contreras de Mendez, age 62, all of Norwalk.  All three of the family members died at the scene.   Coroner officials are telling members of the media that Elizabeth Mendez was wearing a seat belt but the other two were not.

The three were passengers in the same vehicle, police said. The other three people in that vehicle and the sole occupant of the second vehicle were taken to a hospital with major injuries, Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson said. The names of those injured have not been made public.

More details to follow.

These people were my dear family members and my 6 old already misses his big cousin lizzy this is very sad. Its hurts to see them go but we celibrate their lives and find happyness and contentment with their memory. This stretch of road is dangerous and has a past to prove it . I hope the city takes steps like more lighting and more speed limit postings to help insure fewer accidents happen here. I know we all take risk while on the road driving that at any moment something bad could happen and that no precaution is 100 % but making the route a little safer is a start.
