Mountain Lion Spotted on Tina Street in Norwalk; Alert Issued

An alert has been issued to area residents in Norwalk after what appears to be a mountain lion was captured on video the around Tina Street near the 605 Freeway.

Home surveillance of a large cat believed to be a mountain lion has residents on alert. Norwalk city spokesman Jeff Hobbs told reporters that a video taken by a residential security camera “appears” to be authentic and that the large animal was seen roaming around a residential street.
The video was taken at about 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Department of Fish & Game officials said they also believe it’s a mountain lion but can’t explain why a lion is so far from a wilderness area. The video was shot in the 11000 block of Tina Street.
Residents are urged to be cautious if they see the animal, and are being asked to immediately contact authorities by calling 911.

This actually makes me sad for the animal. I am positive this is an African lioness based on its gait, tail etc. What dumbass Fish and Game person said this is an older dog/pit bull? Please. What is sad is that clearly this belonged to someone illegally (prob a drug dealer) and got out and is now confused and roaming. We all know how this is going to end. Some idiot (or police) will shoot it and kill it for bragging rights (but say its for public safety). I wish a big cat rescuer would find it first.

  • Liz says:

They say it looks like an older lioness because of how it is walking, but to me it looked like a young, malnourished lioness. Think about it-anyone owning this without permit/illegally is not taking care of it the way it should be taken care of, and, sadly, has prob been locked up in a cage. To me the cat looks ill, malnourished and not taken care of properly.

  • Local Person says:

It appears that Tina Street does not reach the 605 freeway. Perhaps the reporter meant near the 5 freeway.

Im amazed at how much media coverage the whole thing got — and I heard its still getting attention in UK and now Japan? The city should get some kind of merchandise deal going to capitalize on all this going on. Finally news other than shooting in norwalk. I agree they should not hurt the cat if they find it.
